As a photographer and designer, Marcie Maler of Maler Photography loves to go all out with parties, and she put that creative drive to work for her son Christian’s first birthday party. His love of bananas and family nicknames of “monkey, chunky monkey, and monk” provided the inspiration for the adorable sock monkey theme. Marcie had a head start on the decor with sock monkeys they already owned, along with vintage props she uses for newborn sessions. Some additional highlights of the day included a monthly photo banner documenting his first year and the cutest sock monkey cake by Sugar Bakery. Almost three years ago, we had the opportunity to share the newborn photos of a darling little girl, Mio. Here she is, so grown up now, with her brand new baby sister Mirei, and they are quite the adorable pair! The girls’ parents, Misono and Dan, wanted a mix of posed shots along with some relaxed, lifestyle images, and Stephanie Elizabeth Photography was able to deliver both so beautifully! How precious is the image of Mirei in the tiny bed with the lovely handmade mobile above? To see more from this sweet shoot, take a peek in the full gallery.
It was the sweet expecting mama Karli VonHerbulis‘s love of animals that inspired the theme of this “Our Lil Dear” themed event styled by Marcie Lenick of Celebrating Love by Marcie. Initially this party was supposed to be a baby shower, but after two postponements due to snow, it became a Sip and See! A peach, mint, and aqua palette was just feminine enough without being too frilly for their baby girl, while the boho chic vibe paired perfectly with Karli’s style. A lovely invitation by Beloved Paper set the mood, while wintery woodland decor complete with ice covered branches, vases adorned with frosted glitter, and little deer added subtle touches of the season and theme. Marcie also brought in chalkboard touches throughout to keep it sweet. Jenna Shriver Photography captured all of the pretty details, and you can see all of the photos submitted in the full gallery!
Photographer Stefanie Harrington got quite the exciting introduction into birth photography when her friend’s labor progressed so quickly that the living room became the impromptu delivery room! We can’t tell this story better than Stefanie, so you must read on to get the full scoop on this crazy day below!
“I am a portrait + wedding photographer based out of Washington, DC. I love working with newborns and families, and I have been longing to add birth photography to my list of services despite the challenges of the unpredictability of labor and delivery combined with my own young family. Birth is such an amazing and life-changing experience, yet the memories of it are hard to hold on to so when one of your dear friends is expecting her third child and wants you to photograph her birth, you know you’ll try your best to make it happen.
“However, even the best laid plans and perfect timing of a weekend labor, don’t always turn out the way you’d ever imagined. After having spent the afternoon with her and her family, monitoring irregular contractions with her, no one expected her labor to progress as quickly as it did. I arrived at her house with the EMTs and started documenting as her husband, who has just delivered their son in their living room, was handing their new baby boy to her.
“It was quite the introduction to birth photography, and I am absolutely thrilled and honored to have been able to capture it all, from that first look at their son to their other two children being introduced to the quiet moments of relief and gratitude in the hospital after. Witnessing a new life entering this world through my camera lens was absolutely fantastic, and I hope I am able to capture more of these types of moments for clients.”
What luck that she arrived in time to capture those moments forever! To see all of the photos, stop by the full gallery.
