I still remember the confusion I felt when faced with installing a car seat for the very first time. It’s one of those new parent rites of passage we all go through, but in this case it’s one that can truly mean life or death for our precious little ones. Given that car crashes are the number one killer of children ages one to twelve in the United States, it’s crucial to understand proper car seat safety guidelines and instructions. 21st Century Insurance has launched a campaign to promote car safety and we’re excited to help spread the word.

Educating yourself on car seat guidelines is the first thing you can do to keep your tot safe. There is a lot to process, and the infographic at the bottom of this post, created by 21st Century, can give you some helpful facts and tips. We also recommend visiting the safecar.gov website, which has some great information to help you.

As part of their awareness campaign, 21st Century is also holding a contest for all you creative individuals out there (and we know you are reading!) to reinvent the classic and iconic “Baby on Board” sign. Remember that bright, but not so pretty, yellow sign? They want to see what you can do with the Baby on Board concept in any medium and in any size. One grand prize winner will receive $10,000 for a nursery makeover, and one winner each week during the contest period will win $100 toward a car seat! It doesn’t have to be yellow, or even have any wording. Your entry should simply represent what Baby on Board means to you.     This is a terrible idea. I was so happy when those signs were phased out. Everyone should drive carefully regardless of who is in the car.

    Hi Nicole – It’s just a contest for some fun creative submissions! :) They are not selling or putting the signs out in production. In fact, your submission doesn’t even have to look like a sign at all.
