Bright, Playful Baby Shower

This bright, playful baby shower, designed by Sarah Parrott of Parrott Design Studio for her sister Jessica along with the help of their family, is bursting with fun and vibrant color! The whimsical, letterpress invitations created by Sarah with illustrations by Denise Holmes truly set the stage for this sweet soiree. The artwork features darling animals riding in a hot air balloon, along with a little elephant speeding by on a bicycle. So cute! “My family loves to plan a party, so we set out to find a venue that would accommodate our 50+ guest list, while offering us a blank slate to decorate. I found the Brixham General Store in York, Maine, a family owned and operated store and café in the historic Brixham Grange Hall, originally built in 1899. It had a beautiful space to rent on the second floor and they allowed us to bring in our food.”

“The biggest project of the shower was sewing the bunting which hung from three metal support beams at the venue. After I created the liner for the invitations, I knew a bunting was in order and the beams were begging for some decoration! Nearly 120’ and a few late nights at the sewing machine later, my mom and I finished it. One of my sister’s best friends hung it for us and it truly transformed the entire space. And now one of the strands is hung in Scarlette’s nursery!”

“All of the food and dessert for the shower was made by family and friends. The menu included all of my sister’s favorite foods from finger sandwiches made by my aunts to her father-in-law’s “famous” cole slaw, cups of her favorite fruit to pasta salad. My sister owns a bakery and is surrounded by cakes and cupcakes all day, so dessert included anything but – lemon bars, brownies, her mother-in-laws amazing double chocolate chip cookies, my mother’s toffee, plus more. I am a fan of edible favors so we decided on sugar cookies. I spent an afternoon making and decorating 50 hot air balloon cookies and created packaging that coordinated with the invitations.

“On the dessert table we had a large marquee-style ‘S’ that I made for Scarlette. Jessica really wanted it for the nursery and I thought it would make for the perfect decoration for the shower. I followed a tutorial from Oh Happy Day.”

“My mother, Janet, had small metal bikes she and my sister purchased a few years ago for my wedding shower, and never used. They were prefect for the baby shower centerpiece. My father, David, spray painted them a light pink. We put infant hats in the bucket on the back of the bike and filled them with little things from Jessica’s registry – teethers, pacifiers, bath toys, shampoo, etc. One of mother’s best friends made the little roses in the front of the bike from baby socks and arranged them with baby’s breath and greenery. The centerpieces were placed on top of a runner, which were burp cloths handmade by my mom. We loved the centerpieces because they were not only cute, but totally functional and re-useable. Even the bikes live in the nursery as décor!”

“Jessica’s sister-in-law, Amy, made the adorable diaper cake and also organized the games we played at the shower. We kept it simple and sweet, playing a bingo game and had everyone fill-out when they thought Scarlette would be born.”
